Kabuse Number 1 is from the first season of Japanese green teas and is named for the shade covering used during the growth of the tea leaves. A "kabuse" emulates wild shade to cover the bushes before they are picked. Japanese Gyokuro is fully shaded, while this tea has the partial shade. This smooth tea has hints of sweet seaweed and is best steeped at 165°F for only 1.5 minutes for the first steeping of the leaves.
